The voting process for the fifth phase of the Lok Sabha elections will be held on May 20, 2024 in Mumbai Suburban District. In that regard, according to the resolution that 'no voter should be left behind', special transport facility will be provided for voting for the differently-abled members of the district. Prasad Khairnar, District Disability Coordinating Officer has informed that wheelchair accessible free bus facilities have been provided through BEST on a fixed route determined according to the Assembly Constituency.


Special efforts are being made under the guidance of District Collector and District Election Officer Rajendra Kshirsagar to enable disabled voters to exercise their right to vote along with ordinary voters in the district. There are 16,116 marked disabled voters in the district as 9364 male disabled voters, 6750 female disabled voters, 2 disabled third category voters. For this purpose, 1106 wheelchairs have been made available at the polling stations for voting. Transport arrangements will be provided to these voters from 613 places. A total of 1106 volunteers have also been appointed for this purpose.

A total of 13,888 disabled voters in the district have been informed about the Swayam app launched for disabled voters. 85 meetings have also been organised in coordination with 25 social and disabled organisations to ensure that disabled voters do not face any problem on the polling day and to explain the voting process and create public awareness.


Also 1321 voters have been distributed Braille Voter slips. Khairnar informed that disabled accessible buses will be run for disabled voters on 25 ring routes and shuttle routes on the actual polling day and rickshaw eco vans have been arranged at 613 places.
