According to a latest data, Maharashtra has become the leading state in foreign direct investment bagging INR 1.83 lakh crore between April 2022 and September 2023.

Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis revealed this information, which was shared by the Centre, while speaking to the media in Mumbai on Thursday, December 28.

He further stated that all those who were undermining and questioning the state should realise its potential. Maharashtra always had great financial and industrial potential. The state lost its leading status in FDI during the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government led by then chief minister Uddhav Thackeray from November 2019 to June 2021.

In the first quarter of 2023-24 (April to June 2023) the state received INR 36,634 crore in FDI while it got INR 28,868 crore in the second quarter (July to September 2023), the highest FDI received by any state.

Overall, Maharashtra is far ahead of its competitors, Karnataka and Delhi, in FDI. The investments from April to September 2023 show Maharashtra received INR 65,502 crore. Fadnavis said it was more than the combined FDI received by Delhi, Gujarat and Karnataka.

Earlier, Maharashtra was number one in FDI during his tenure as CM from 2014-2019, according to Fadnavis.
