It’s time that the polls are discussed as the Gujarat elections await us on December 9. On the front burner are Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and BJP Chief Amit Shah who met in Ahmedabad in the wee hours of Monday to throw light on Maharashtra Cabinet reshuffle.

They were also accompanied by senior leader Chandrakant Patil. Party sources tell that the trio also reviewed the induction of former chief minister Narayan Rane and Maharashtra BJP’s efforts for Gujarat elections.

However, Rane’s inclusion to the cabinet, and also a candidate for the legislative council by-election, scheduled for December 7, is also being talked about, according to sources.

Rane is assumed to be in a quest to get inducted as a minister before the start of Maharashtra legislature’s winter session, so much that he requested to raise this issue in a separate meeting with him next week while being consistent on the demand that his induction should not be delayed for the proposed Cabinet reshuffle.

As Rane quit as MLC, the by-election to one seat in the state legislature’s upper house is being held. Shiv Sena, BJP’s ally is unlikely to stand in his support if he decides to contest the by-election. And without Shiv Sena’s stand, the BJP will have to beat many odds to get him elected. “It is almost certain that the party will field a candidate in the council elections rather than support Rane so as to avoid a possible embarrassment ahead of the Gujarat polls,” a party leader said, on condition of anonymity, in an interview with Hindustan Times.

As per the reports, BJP and Narayan Rane have collectively decided against fielding him in the by-poll. They are to wait until the next round of council elections in June or July next year.

Floating his own party in October to be part of the NDA, Rane has been waiting for his inclusion in the state Cabinet. For the matter to be taken seriously, he met Devendra Fadnavis earlier on Monday and asked for a decision on the induction.

The Cabinet Reshuffle has to wait for now. It is only after Gujarat elections and the winter session of Maharashtra legislature that the needful can be anticipated, as said by the BJP leaders.
