Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has condemned the vandalism at the premises of Rajgruha which is the former home and memorial of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar. He said that the incident was highly reprehensible and was a misdeed of anti-social mentality. 

“The incident of vandalism at the residence of Bharat Ratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar is highly condemnable and is a misdeed of anti-social mentality. ‘Rajgruha’ has historical importance in Mumbai and the state government has taken serious note of the incident while directing the police to start an investigation,” he said. 

Pawar added that the accused will be found as soon as possible and strict action will be taken against them. The Deputy CM asked the people to not fall prey to the evils of anti-social forces and has appealed for peace, restraint and unity. 

Taking to Twitter, Pawar said that the work and thoughts of Babasaheb Ambedkar are deeply rooted in society. “We have strong faith in him and no one can shake it,” he added. 

The Matunga Police in Mumbai has registered an FIR after unidentified men on Tuesday evening vandalised the flower pots at Rajgruha which is the residence and memorial of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar in Dadar’s Hindu colony. 

The police recovered the CCTV footage which was submitted by the caretakers of the three-story building and found two to three vandals who began smashing the flower pots after entering the premises. 

The incident happened in the evening on Tuesday evening and the caretakers informed that the some CCTV cameras were also damaged. However, the police have dismissed any political reason behind the vandalism and said those behind it may be “drug addicts”. 

Meanwhile, Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) chief Prakash Ambedkar - grandson of Ambedkar - has appealed for peace while urging the followers of Babasaheb to not gather outside the house.
