The health of Manoj Jarange Patil, who was on hunger strike demanding Maratha reservation, is now deteriorating. The police and the district administration are in a panic over the deteriorating health of Maratha reservation activist Manoj Jarange-Patil, whose condition worsened on Thursday evening. A senior police officer said a government doctor was checking Jarange-Patil's health every four hours and a fully equipped ambulance was deployed at the protest site, "we have a doctor available round the clock."

Jarange-Patil is on a fast unto death in his village Antarwali Sarti in Nanded district demanding implementation of the promises made to him by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde when he canceled his march to Mumbai on January 26. The matter of his deteriorating health is before the Bombay High Court, which has said that the government should provide him necessary treatment.

A government official said Jarange-Patil was given a drip twice and drank only water, although doctors insisted he take oral rehydration salts. Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar Divisional Commissioner Madhukar Raje is continuously talking with the Maratha leader, while CM Shinde has assured him that there will be a one-day special legislature session on Maratha reservation on February 20.

There have been protests in parts of Marathwada following reports of Jarange-Patil's deteriorating health. Many people from the Maratha community gathered at the site of his fast and some requested him to call it off.
