Shiv Sena Thackeray faction MLA Ravindra Waikar, who has backed away from the 'ED' probe from the Jageshwari seat, is rumored to soon join Chief Minister Eknath Shinde's group after leaving the Uddhav Thackeray Groups’ Shiv Sena.
Waikar was recently interrogated by the ED. The ED has started an inquiry against Waikar for building a hotel on a reserved plot in Jogeshwari and reaping financial benefits. A case has also been registered against his wife in this case. Waikar was once considered close to Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray. Waikar also served as the chairman of the Standing Committee, which is considered the financial treasury of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). BJP leader Kirit Somaiya had alleged that Thackeray and Waikar family had acquired unaccounted assets in Raigad district. Waikar first started the construction of a club and then a hotel on a reserved plot of land in Jogeshwari. He is accused of embezzling money from this.
It is understood that Waikar got close to the Shinde group only to escape from the investigation. They were promised to help the Thackeray group if they were given a leave of absence. This is why the civic body recently changed its earlier stance in the ongoing case in the Supreme Court and took a soft stance that would help Waikar. That's when it became clear that Waikar would crush the Thackeray group.
There is talk that Waikar will soon join the Shinde group. When MLA Waikar was asked about this, he refused to say anything. The Thackeray group is expressing the possibility of Waikar joining the Shinde group due to the fear of arrest.
