In the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition has finalised seat-sharing for 42 seats. The coalition comprises the Congress, the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena, and the National Congress Party (NCP), led by Shivchandra Pawar. However, talks with the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA), led by Prakash Ambedkar, are yet to reach a conclusion.
Despite the progress made by the MVA, the VBA remains a challenge. Ambedkar, the VBA leader, has expressed confidence in his party's ability to secure six seats independently. He has also instructed VBA leaders to avoid MVA meetings until further notice. In response, NCP chief Sharad Pawar has invited Ambedkar to an MVA meeting scheduled for March 6.
The MVA has agreed upon 42 of the 48 Lok Sabha seats in Maharashtra. The Shiv Sena is expected to secure 17 seats, the Congress will get 15, and the NCP will get about 10. The remaining six seats are still under negotiation.
The VBA has released a list of 27 Lok Sabha seats that it believes it can win independently. This has led to a block in the negotiations. But, MVA is also keen on including the VBA in its alliance.
Reports suggest that the concerns of the six available seats will be resolved by the leaders of the three parties in the coming days. The Shiv Sena is adamant about contesting four seats in Mumbai and letting Congress have two. It has also been alleged that the Congress is pushing for two additional constituencies.
MVA leaders are hopeful that the March 6 meeting, in which Pawar is also expected to arrive. Thackeray and prominent Maharashtra Congress members will resolve the VBA issue. Additionally, Sharad Pawar is hoping that Rashtriya Samaj Paksh (RSP) will also join MVA.
