In the recently concluded assembly elections in Maharashtra, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) managed to win on 54 seats. The meeting of NCP legislators was held on Wednesday after the party’s core committee meeting at YB Chavan centre in Mumbai.

The party legislators on Wednesday, unanimously, elected Ajit Pawar as legislature party leader of the NCP. Ajit Pawar, the nephew of Sharad Pawar, contested the assembly elections in Maharashtra from Baramati constituency on NCP seat and won with a huge margin of 1,65,265 votes. 

 Ajit Pawar thanked the party legislators and assured them that he will be aggressive on issues like unemployment and agrarian crisis. In the meeting, top NCP leaders including Sharad Pawar, Praful Patel, Supriya Sule, Dhananjay Munde, Jayant Patil, Jitendra Awhad and Nawab Malik among others was present. 

On this occasion, the NCP office was decorated with flowers and posters which read: "Powerful Pawar" dedicated to Sharad Pawar for his election rally where the senior leader stood in the heavy rains to address the gathering. 

Despite winning hearts of the people, NCP has taught a lesson to the arrogance of BJP and Shiv Sena," said NCP supremo Sharad Pawar.

Earlier, Ajit Pawar along with Sharad Pawar was named in a case filed by Enforcement Directorate (ED) for alleged scam related to Maharashtra State Cooperative Bank (MSCB).

As this happened, Ajit Pawar resigned from his post as a legislator ahead of the assembly elections in Maharashtra and said that he was hurt because the FIR named Sharad Pawar. Pawar is a seven-time MLA from Baramati in Pune district. He is the son of Anantrao Pawar,  the elder brother of Sharad Pawar.
