The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) is seen taking an aggressive stance over the statement made by Union Minister of State for Science and Technology Jitendra Singh regarding the name 'IIT Bombay'. A few days ago, speaking at an event at IIT, Minister Singh had said that it was a good thing that the 'Bombay' in the name of IIT was not changed to 'Mumbai'. After this, MNS President Raj Thackeray has now said that this statement is a symbol of the government's mentality. He has written a big post on social media platform X and expressed his position on this.

Raj Thackeray's serious allegations

Raj Thackeray, who has repeatedly taken an aggressive stance on the issue of Marathi people and Mumbai, has expressed the possibility that a plot is being hatched to separate the city of Mumbai from Maharashtra. For this, he has given the example of Chandigarh. Not only this, but Raj Thackeray has also made a sensational allegation in his post that an attempt is being made to annex Mumbai and then the entire MMR area to Gujarat.

Raj Thackeray's post

“Union Science and Technology Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh, while speaking at an IIT program in Mumbai, made a statement that ‘IIT kept Bombay as it is and did not change it to Mumbai, it was a good thing’. Jitendra Singh's statement clearly reflects the government's mindset. And what is this mentality? So the plan to separate Mumbai, which belonged to the Marathi people, from Maharashtra was foiled by the Marathi leaders and the people. And our Marathi Mumbai remained in Maharashtra. The nausea that had been building up in his stomach for decades about it had started to come out once again. Actually, Jitendra Singh has no connection with Mumbai, Maharashtra or Gujarat. He comes from Jammu… but his aim is to get praise by knowing what is going on in the minds of our top leadership and saying so.

On this occasion, I appeal to all Marathi people living not only in Mumbai but also in the MMR area to open their eyes now. The name 'Mumbai' bothers them because they took it from their mother, Mumba, the original goddess of Mumbai. All the children of that goddess are the Marathi people who have lived here for generations. You and your city are hurting them.

"Today, the central government tried to take away the city of Chandigarh from Punjab. It faced all-party opposition, so it withdrew, but it was a temporary withdrawal. Something similar must be 100% working in the case of Mumbai. They want 'Bombay' instead of 'Mumbai', and this is how they are slowly trying to take over this city. First Mumbai and then the entire MMR area is being taken over and then the attempt is being made to connect it to Gujarat. Then Marathi people should wake up. We are already seeing every day what the central government, industrialists etc. have already started taking over here!"

When speaking at an event at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay, Minister Jitendra Singh said:

“Speaking about IIT Bombay, I thank God that it still has the same name, you haven’t changed it to Mumbai, and that is another commendable thing about you. The same applies to Madras as well. It has remained IIT Madras.”

After his statement, the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) reacted strongly and started protests against it.
