Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray's son Amit Thackeray launched a beach clean-up campaign at 40 beaches across the state, including Mumbai.

They had carried out 'Beach Cleaning Campaign' along the 720 km long coastline in Maharashtra on Saturday, December 11 from 10 am to 1 am at Dadar Chowpatty.

Many children also participated in the drive and collected garbage from the beach in black bags to dispose of them.

MNS chief Raj Thackeray’s son and MNS leader Amit Thackeray has shared the video and appealed to people to join the campaign.

“Someone may be wondering why the beaches abroad are so clean and beautiful, why not in our state. We must come together and stop the degradation of the environment,” Amit Thackeray told the Mumbaikars in the video.

This initiative comes ahead of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Elections 2022. Thackeray left no stones unturned and slammed the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government. “We need to take responsibility, not just rely on the government. Campaigns are being carried out in various countries around the world to conserve the sea and the environment. Maharashtra Navnirman Paryavaran Sena carried out a clean-up operation on the Dadar-Mahim shores in Mumbai for four years in a row,” he added.

MNS said that several people had registered for beach clean-up drive at Girgaon, Dadar, Mahim, Bandra, Versova, Juhu, Aksa and other beaches of the state.

Meanwhile, even amid concerns over the Omicron variant of COVID-19, a large number of people had gathered at Dadar beach. Some people among the crowd were also seen without masks.
