In yet another political uproar in Uttar Pradesh, state former chief minister and Veteran politician Mulayam Singh died on Monday, October 10, at a hospital in Gurugram after a prolonged illness. He was 82.

According to reports, the former defence minister (1996-98) was admitted to hospital since August and was shifted to the Intensive Care Unit of the Gurugram-based Medanta Hospital on October 2.

Soon after his demise, several political leaders across the parties and states expressed their grief on this incident and gave heartfelt condolences to his family.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde lauded his role in the development of UP. Shinde in his condolence message on Twitter said, "My thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved family of late Mulayam Singh Yadav. He played a vital role in the development of Uttar Pradesh.”

Moreover, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, UP Governor, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President, Vice President, BSP chief Mayawati and Union Ministers Shah, Rajnath, among other top leaders leaders also condoled his death.

In an official statement, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav's office said that the last rites of Mulayam Singh Yadav will be held at Saifai, his ancestral village in Uttar Pradesh.

CM Adityanath also mentioned that last rites of the veteran politician will be held with full state honours. In addition, he also declared a three-day state mourning over the death of Samajwadi Party patriarch.

For those unversed, he was the founder of the Samajwadi (Socialits) Party in 1992. Moreover, he served three times CM of UP (1989-91, 1993-95, 2003-2007).
