Mumbai: Unrest in Shinde group over BJP's seat allocation, expansion of the cabinet

In spite of being in power, many leaders of Eknath Shinde group are deprived of their benefits and the BJP is treating them poorly, adding to the restlessness that has been going on for the past few months. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde's MLAs- MPs are openly expressing their displeasure with the allocation of seats in the Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha, expansion of the cabinet, and the fact that work is not being done despite being in power, as per the report by Loksatta.

Although there is a Shinde and BJP government in the state, the Shinde group has not got a share of power at the centre. Therefore, MPs from the Shinde group, who are eager for the ministerial post, are uneasy. Gajanan Kirtikar has been elected as the parliamentary group leader of the Shinde group. But unlike the constituent party in Raloa (NDA), they are not given honour or work by the ministers of the Modi government. Therefore, Kirtikar openly expressed his displeasure with the behaviour of the BJP. Even in the recent meeting held by Chief Minister Shinde, Kirtikar and other leaders strongly expressed their opinions.

The Shinde group has now realised that the BJP will not give seats

Though seats have not been distributed between BJP and Shinde group for the Lok Sabha-Vidhan Sabha elections, BJP has started strong preparations in all the constituencies. The Shinde group has now realised that the BJP will not give 22 Lok Sabha seats and 124 seats to the Legislative Assembly like the seats given to Shiv Sena in 2019. Therefore, Kirtikar and other leaders have started demanding that all the seats given to Shiv Sena in the previous elections should be given to the Shinde group. Cabinet expansion has also been stalled and currently nine leaders each from the BJP-Shinde group have got seats. While 50 MLAs from the Shinde group and independents are in power, they are deprived of ministerial posts and corporations. Discontent is increasing as other leaders are not getting the benefits of power.

Although there is displeasure in the BJP as the cabinet is not being expanded, it has not been openly expressed. Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has recently made it clear that they should not seek ministerial posts by calling on the party office bearers to sacrifice. Therefore, the cabinet will not expand and if it does, the BJP leaders will not get much space. The discussion is going on as to why Fadnavis appealed to those who did not get the positions to sacrifice when they had to sacrifice. Despite being in power, as they are not getting the benefits of ministerial positions, corporations, etc, there is resentment on both sides, but the anger of the Shinde group is increasing.

Claims on ministerial posts
Bharat Gogawle, the chief leader of the Shinde group, has also claimed the post of guardian minister of Raigad by asserting that the cabinet expansion will take place before June 2. Bachchu Kadu has demanded the post of minister. Shinde has avoided commenting on the statements of Kirtikar, Gogavle, Kadu or any issue.
