Home Minister Anil Deshmukh, in a recently shared message, stated that though the case against Sharjeel Usmani has been registered, he has not been arrested yet; and while several BJP leaders have raised such questions, the party will ensure that Sharjeel gets arrested irrespective of his presence, be it in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat or anywhere else in the state.

Recently, Sharjeel Usmani had made a controversial statement about the Hindu society at the Elgar conference held on January 30, 2021, in Pune. His video clip was checked and it eventually led to controversy due to the speech, owing to which a case was registered by the state Home Department.

Despite this, the officials have not been able to arrest the same. Curious with this inefficiency, BJP leaders have raised concerns and questioned the move.

Leader of Opposition in the Assembly and former CM of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis has written a letter to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray demanding action against Sharjeel Usmani. Sharing his thought, he said that a young man comes to the state, hurls insults at Hindutva and leaves without any punishment and action. While this type of response is not acceptable, it also raises concerns about the issue, whereby a statement has become a source of embarrassment to many people in the state. Adding more he said that he hopes to take legal action against him for the consequences of making such a statement.

Reports state that the police have investigated the video clipping of the offensive statement made by Sharjeel Usmani at the Elgar conference and have registered a case against him. He is currently out of Maharashtra, but wherever he is today, be it in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, or anywhere else, we will make sure we find him and arrest him,"  assured Minister Deshmukh.
