The benchmark indices managed to close in green after giving up intraday gains. IT, Metal and Financial stocks outperformed.
At close, the Sensex was up 209.36 points or 0.40 per cent at 52,653.07 and the Nifty was up 69.10 points or 0.44 per cent at 15,778.50.
About 1781 shares have advanced, 1170 shares declined and 109 shares remain unchanged.
On the Nifty 50 index, Hindalco (10.04 per cent), Tata Steel (6.86 per cent), Bajaj Finserv (4.50 per cent), SBI (3.77 per cent), JSW Steel (3.70 per cent) were the top gainers for the day, while Maruti Suzuki (-2.39 per cent), Power Grid Corp (-2.15 per cent), ITC (-1.46 per cent), Bajaj Auto (-1.43 per cent) and Coal India (-1.32 per cent) were the top losers for the day.
On the sectoral front, the metal index gained 5 per cent, while the IT, PSU Bank and Realty Indices rose 1-3 per cent. The Nifty FMCG index dropped by 1 per cent.
The BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices rose 0.4 – 0.9 per cent.
Author’s View: The market suggests 15,800 will be an important support level in the short-term perspective. If the market sustains above the level of 15,800, expects to gain momentum, leading to an upside projection of 15,950 levels.
