The benchmark indices ended on a positive note backed positive global cues.
At close, the Sensex was up the Sensex was up 638.70 points or 1.22 per cent at 52,837.21 and the Nifty was up 191.90 points or 1.23 per cent at 15,824.
About 2131 shares have advanced, 1054 shares declined and 128 shares remain unchanged.
On the Nifty 50 index, Tech Mahindra (5.64 per cent), JSW Steel (5.07 per cent), Bajaj Finance (4.27 per cent), Bharti Airtel (3.98 per cent) and Bajaj Finserv (3.71 per cent) were the top gainers for the day, while HUL (-2.33 per cent), Asian Paints (-1.66 per cent), Bajaj Auto (-1.34 per cent), Cipla (-0.55 per cent) and Britannia (-0.24 per cent) were the top losers for the day.
On the sectoral front, except Nifty FMCG, all the other sectoral indices ended in green.
The BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices gained 1.49 per cent and 1.52 per cent respectively.
Author’s View: Sustaining above 15,800, the market expects to gain momentum, leading to an upside projection till 15,900 – 15,950 level. Technical indicators suggest a volatile movement in the market in a small range.
