Nifty Closes Above 15,800, Sensex Jumps Almost 400 Points

Nifty and Sensex ended higher for the second consecutive day on July 5.

At close, the Sensex was up 395.33 points or 0.75 per cent at 52,880 and the Nifty was up 112.20 points or 0.71 per cent at 15,834.40.

About 2174 shares have advanced, 1086 shares declined and 162 shares remain unchanged.

On the Nifty 50 index, Hindalco (3.59 per cent), ONGC (2.11 per cent), SBI (1.94 per cent), Tata Steel (1.84 per cent) and Coal India (1.52 per cent) were the top gainers for the day, while HDFC Life (-1.40 per cent), Tech Mahindra (-1.35 per cent), Dr. Reddy’s Labs (-0.68 per cent), BPCL (-0.66 per cent) and Britannia (-0.61 per cent) were the top losers for the day.

On the sectoral front, except Nifty Pharma (-0.01 per cent) and Nifty IT (-0.20 per cent) all the other sectoral indices ended in green. Nifty Realty (2.73 per cent) and Nifty Bank (1.16 per cent) were the top performing sectors for the day.

The BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices gained 0.35 per cent and 0.78 per cent respectively.

Author’s View: Nifty’s bias for the short term seems to be positive. However, we should build fresh long position only when Nifty crosses 15,900 on closing basis, for a target of 16,100.
