Nifty Closes Below 15,650, Sensex Dips 354 Points

Nifty and Sensex ended lower for the third consecutive day on July 20 dragged by the metal, realty and financial stocks.

At close, the Sensex was down 354.89 points or 0.68 per cent at 52,198.51 and the Nifty was down 120.30 points or 0.76 per cent at 15,632.10.

About 1109 shares have advanced, 2056 shares declined and 107 shares remain unchanged.

On the Nifty 50 index, Asian Paints (5.94 per cent), UltraTech Cement (1.54 per cent), HUL (1.09 per cent), Grasim (0.98 per cent) and Maruti Suzuki (0.94 per cent) were the top gainers for the day, while Hindalco (-3.51 per cent), IndusInd Bank (-3.38 per cent), Tata Steel (-2.61 per cent), NTPC (-2.43 per cent) and Bharti Airtel (-2.36 per cent) were the top losers for the day.

On the sectoral front, except Nifty FMCG all other sectoral indices ended in red. The BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices fell over 1 per cent each.

Author’s View: The market have been able to close above 15,600 support. The short term trend will change to bearish if we break this level on a closing basis. If a reversal happens from the current level, Nifty can move up 16,000 – 16,100.
