The benchmark indices ended in green for the second day in a row with Nifty above 14,650 and the Sensex near 49,000. Metal and PSU Bank stocks outperformed.
At close, the Sensex was up 557.63 points or 1.15 per cent at 48,944.14 and the Nifty was up 168 points or 1.16 per cent at 14,653.
About 1915 shares have advanced, 984 shares declined and 158 shares remain unchanged.
On the Nifty 50 index, Hindalco (5.14 per cent), Tata Steel (3.93 per cent), Larsen (3.35 per cent), Divis Labs (3.29 per cent) and Bajaj Finance (2.71 per cent) were the top gainers for the day, while HDFC Life (-3.65 per cent), SBI Life Insurance (-1.46 per cent), Maruti Suzuki (-1.06 per cent), Nestle (-0.54 per cent) and Kotak Mahindra (-0.53 per cent) were the top losers for the day.
On the sectoral front, all the sectoral indices ended in green. Nifty Metal (2.71 per cent), Nifty PSU Bank (2.30 per cent) and Nifty Bank (1.43 per cent) outperformed the benchmark indices and were the top gainers for the day.
The BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices were up 1.04 per cent and 1.49 per cent respectively.
Author’s View: Nifty can move towards 14,800 and 15,000 if the level of 14,500 is sustained. The technical indicators are indicating a further up move in the index.
