Nifty closes above 15,150 and Sensex gains more than 1,000 points backed by strong global cues and strong buying in banking and financial stocks.
At close, the Sensex was 1,001.93 points or 2.02 per cent and the Nifty was up 274.70 points or 1.84 per cent at 15,180.70.
About 1767 shares have advanced, 1087 shares declined and 141 shares remain unchanged.
On the Nifty 50 index, HDFC Bank (4.50 per cent), SBI (4.33 per cent), IndusInd Bank (4.15 per cent), ICICI Bank (3.86 per cent) and Axis Bank (3.54 per cent) were the top gainers for the day, while Power Grid Corp (-0.44 per cent), Dr. Reddy’s Labs (-0.38 per cent), IOC (-0.38 per cent), Eicher Motors (-0.33 per cent) and Grasim (-0.25 per cent) were the top and only losers for the day.
On the sectoral front, all the sectoral indices ended in green. Nifty Bank (3.82 per cent) & Nifty PSU Bank (3.80 per cent) were the top gainers for the day.
The BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices gained 0.82 per cent and 0.65 per cent.
Author’s View: The expected level should range between 15,000 and 15,400 and it’s going to be crucial for the short-term market scenario to stay above the 14,900 level.
