The benchmark indices ended almost a percent higher with Nifty closing above 15,800.
At close, the BSE Sensex was up 397 points or 0.76 per cent at 52,769.73, while the Nifty was up 120 points or 0.76 per cent at 15,812.35
On the Nifty 50 index, ICICI Bank (2.89 per cent), HDFC (2.74 per cent), Grasim (2.64 per cent), Axis Bank (2.28 per cent) and Sun Pharma (2.16 per cent) were the top gainers for the day, while Adani Ports (-1.96 per cent), HCL Tech (-1.17 per cent), Dr. Reddy’s Labs (-1.04 per cent), Tech Mahindra (-0.61 per cent) and Maruti Suzuki (-0.53 per cent) were the top losers for the day.
On the sectoral front, except IT and FMCG all the other sectoral indices ended in green, with Banking and Financial indices rising over a per cent.
The BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices gained 0.01 per cent and 0.46 per cent respectively.
Author’s View: Nifty closed above its important resistance at 15,800 which is a positive sign. If the above level is maintained we might see nifty moving towards 16,000.
