Nifty and Sensex ended lower for second day in a row backed by weak global cues. IT stock out performed.
At close, the Sensex was down 178.65 points or 0.34 per cent at 52,323.33 and the Nifty was down 76.10 points or 0.48 per cent at 15,691.40.
About 1347 shares advanced, 1784 shares declined and 149 shares remain unchanged.
On the Nifty 50 index, Ultratech Cement (1.78 per cent), Asian Paints (1.38 per cent), TCS (1.33 per cent), Tata Consumer Products (1.24 per cent) and HDFC Life (1.18 per cent) were the top gainers for day, while Adani Ports (-8.46 per cent), Tata Steel (-3.36 per cent), IndusInd Bank (-2.92 per cent), Hindalco (-2.89 per cent) and Eicher Motors (-2.46 per cent) were the top losers for the day.
On the sectoral front, except Nifty IT (0.57 per cent) and Nifty FMCG (0.14 per cent) all other sectoral indices ended in red. Nifty Metal (-2.32 per cent), Nifty Realty (-1.65 per cent) and Nifty Bank (-1.14 per cent) were the top losing sectors for the day.
The BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices were down 1.29 per cent and 0.58 per cent.
Author’s View: Market continues to resist above 15,750 and has taken dip at 15,620. If Nifty closes below 15,650 we might see a correction till 15,450 – 15,400 level.
