Nifty and Sensex gave up all the gains and ended almost a percent lower dragged by the Bank, Metal and Pharma stocks.
At close, the Sensex was down 485.82 points or 0.92 per cent at 52,568.94 and the Nifty was down 151.80 points or 0.96 per cent at 15,727.90.
About 1277 shares have advanced, 1648 shares declined and 112 shares remain unchanged.
On the Nifty 50 index, Tech Mahindra (1.36 per cent), SBI Life Insurance (0.71 per cent), Eicher Motors (0.68 per cent), HCL Tech (0.15 per cent) and Shree Cements (0.13 per cent) were top gainers for the day, while Tata Motors (-3.39 per cent), JSW Steel (-3.21 per cent), Hindalco (-2.68 per cent), Bajaj Auto (-2.65 per cent) and ONGC (-2.38 per cent) were the top losers for the day.
All the sectoral indices ended in red.
The BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices were down 0.37 per cent and 0.09 per cent respectively.
Author’s View: Nifty witnessed a correction after a failed attempt to hold support level of 15,800. Going forward 15,650 will be an important support level from a short term perspective. If Nifty sustains above this level we may see a bounce back in Nifty.
