Nifty Ends Below 15,750, Sensex Slips 50 Points

After making a new intraday high the benchmark indices traded in red. Midcap and Smallcap stocks outperformed.

At close, the Sensex was down 53 points or 00.10 per cent at 52,275.57, while the Nifty was down 12 points or 00.07 per cent at 15,740.10.

On the Nifty 50 index, Tech Mahindra (2.26 per cent), Tata Motors (2.10 per cent), Bharti Airtel (1.93 per cent), HCL Tech (1.85 per cent) and IOC (1.74 per cent) were the top gainers for the day, while Hindalco (-1.84 per cent), Tata Steel (-1.56 per cent), HDFC (-1.21 per cent), Kotak Mahindra (-1.18 per cent) and SBI (-1.17 per cent) were the top losers for the day.

On the sectoral front, except Nifty Metal (-1.06 per cent), Nifty Bank (-1.01 per cent), Nifty Financial Service (-0.76 per cent) and Nifty PSU Bank (-1.45 per cent) all other sectoral indices ended in green. Nifty IT (1.20 per cent), Nifty Pharma (0.86 per cent) and Nifty Realty (0.85 per cent) were the top performing sectors for the day.

The BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices gained 0.38 per cent and 0.93 per cent respectively.

Author’s View: Trading above 15,700 is positive for short term perspective. The market is expected to gain momentum leading to an upside target till 15,900 level. Momentum indicators are also supporting an uptrend from the current level.
