Stock Market Highlights: Nifty, Sensex end flat after a choppy session

The benchmark indices ended flat amid a highly volatile session on 10th February 2021.

At close, the Sensex was down 19.69 points or 0.04 per cent at 51,309.39 and the Nifty was down 2.80 points or 0.02 per cent at 15,106.50. About 1455 shares have advanced, 1454 shares declined and 161 shares remain unchanged.

On the Nifty 50 index, Bajaj Finserv (2.88 per cent), Cipla (2.57 per cent), SBI Life Insurance (2.55 per cent) and M&M (2.14 per cent) were the top gainers for the day, while HDFC Bank (-1.87 per cent), Eicher Motors (-1.57 per cent), Bharti Airtel (-1.46 per cent) and Tata Steel (-1.28 per cent) were the top losers for the day.

On the sectoral front, Pharma, IT, Consumption, Realty, Auto, Energy and PSU Banks indices ended in green while Metal, Bank, Infra, FMCG and Financial Services indices ended in red.

The BSE Smallcap and Midcap indices rose 0.42 per cent and 0.71 per cent respectively.

Author’s View: After a small intraday correction, Nifty recovered and managed to close above 15,100 which is a positive sign. The short term undertone remains bullish and we can see Nifty move up towards a target of 15,700 – 15,800. On the downside 14,950 – 14,900 will act as a strong support for the index.
