The benchmark indices ended flat followed by a highly volatile trading session on 14th May. Metal stocks witness selling pressure while FMCG stocks attracted buyer interest.
At close, the Sensex was up 41.75 points or 0.09 per cent at 48,732.55 and the Nifty was down 18.70 points or 0.13 per cent at 14,677.80.
About 1402 shares have advanced, 1627 shares declined and 141 shares remain unchanged.
On the Nifty 50 index, Asian Paints (8.54 per cent), UPL (7.47 per cent), ITC (4.43 per cent), Nestle (3.03 per cent) and Larsen (2.18 per cent) were the top gainers for the day while, Coal India (-4.36 per cent), Tata Motors (-4.22 per cent), Hindalco (-4.01 per cent), Tata Steel (-3.99 per cent) and Grasim (-3.21 per cent) were the top losers for the day.
On the sectoral front, other than Nifty FMCG (2.13 per cent) all the other sectoral indices ended in red. Nifty Metal lost 3.76 per cent to become the top loser for the day.
The BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices lost 1.14 per cent and 1.18 per cent respectively.
Author’s View: Support for Nifty is placed at 14,650 – 14,600 zone, while 14,800 – 14,950 will act as a strong hurdle for Nifty.
