Stock Market Highlights: Sensex falls 397 points, Nifty ends below 15,000

The benchmark indices ended in red on March 15, 2021. The Nifty closed below the 15,000 level and the Sensex lost close to 400 points.

At close, the Sensex was down 397.00 points or 0.78 per cent at 50,395.08, and the Nifty was down 101.50 points or 0.68 per cent at 14,929.50. About 1210 shares have advanced, 1788 shares declined and 207 shares remain unchanged.

On the Nifty 50 index, JSW Steel (2.60 per cent), Tech Mahindra (2.33 per cent), Tata Steel (2.28 per cent), Power Grid Corp (1.86 per cent) and IndusInd Bank (1.56 per cent) were the top gainers for the day, while Divis Labs (-2.88 per cent), Hero Motocorp (-2.58 per cent), Bajaj Finserv (-2.47 per cent), Coal India (-2.39 per cent) and GAIL (-2.25 per cent) were the top losers for the day.

On the sectoral front, Nifty Metal (1.04 per cent), Nifty IT (0.56 per cent), Nifty Energy (0.02 per cent) and Nifty PSU Bank (0.16 per cent) ended in the green, while Nifty Pharma (-1.31 per cent), Nifty Bank (-0.88 per cent), Nifty Auto (-0.47 per cent) and Nifty Realty (-0.40 per cent) ended in the red.

The BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices lost 0.72 per cent and 0.53 per cent respectively.

Author’s View: The traders are advised to refrain from building fresh buying positions until a decisive breakout is seen above the 15,000 level.
