The benchmark indices ended at a new life time high with Nifty closing above 16,100.
At close, the BSE Sensex was up 872.73 points or 1.65 per cent at 53, 823.36 and the Nifty was up 245.60 points or 1.55 per cent at 16,10.75.
About 1679 shares advanced and 1494 shares declined.
On the Nifty 50 index, Titan Company (3.88 per cent), HDFC (3.76 per cent), IndusInd Bank (3.45 per cent), Nestle (3.21 per cent) and SBI (2.67 per cent) were the top gainers for the day, while JSW Steel (-0.86 per cent), Bajaj Auto (-0.35 per cent), Shree Cements (-0.31 per cent), Tata Steel (-0.20 per cent) and NTPC (-0.08 per cent) were the top losers for the day.
On the sectoral front, except Nifty Metal (-0.05 per cent) all the other sectoral indices ended in green. FMCG and Banking & Finance stocks were the top performers for the day.
The BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices gained 0.19 per cent and 0.23 per cent respectively.
Author’s View: The support for Nifty has moved up to 16,000. On the upside 16,200 is will act as a strong hurdle. If the index manages to break 16,200 then the next target on Nifty would be 16,500.
