The Benchmark Indices Ended Flat Post A Volatile Trading Session

The benchmark indices erased intraday losses and closed near day’s high level.

At close, the Sensex was up 21.12 points or 0.04 per cent at 52,344.45 and the Nifty was down 8.00 points or 0.05 per cent at 15,683.40.

About 1182 shares have advanced, 1964 shares declined and 126 shares remain unchanged.

On the Nifty 50 index, Adani Ports (7.33 per cent), Bajaj Auto (2.79 per cent), HUL (2.70 per cent), Bharti Airtel (1.91 per cent) and Grasim (1.55 per cent) were the top gainers for the day, while ONGC (-3.88 per cent), Coal India (-3.78 per cent), JSW Steel (-3.70 per cent), NTPC (-3.28 per cent) and UPL (-3.24 per cent) were the top losers for the day.

On the sectoral front, except Nifty FMCG, Nifty Consumption and Nifty Financial Service all other sectoral indices ended in red. Nifty Energy (-1.95 per cent), Nifty PSU Bank (-1.77 per cent) and Nifty Metal (-0.91 per cent) were the top losers for the day.

The BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices lost 0.70 per cent and 0.89 per cent respectively.

Author’s View: 15,600 – 15,650 is an important support zone for Nifty. Since this level is not breached on closing basis, our view remains bullish for short term.
