Every year in summer, there is a huge shortage of blood and the patients suffer because of it. To overcome this, the State Blood Transfusion Council had appealed to spiritual and social organisations to organise blood donation camps. In response, 847 blood donation camps were conducted across the state in February. Due to this, sufficient blood stock has been made available in the state at present.

Considering the problem of blood shortage that arises every year in summer, this year the State Blood Transfusion Council has already started its efforts. Accordingly, blood donation camps were conducted at various places across the state from February 10 to 25 by the Blood Transfusion Council and Sri Jagadguru Narendracharya Maharaj Institute. 78,221 units of blood were collected by organising 847 blood donation camps in 15 days.

While donating blood in summer...

Donating blood in summer does not have any adverse effect on health. However, if the concerned person has been exposed to the sun or has lost water in his body (dehydration) before donating blood, he should not donate blood. Donating blood while dehydrated may cause low blood pressure or dizziness. Therefore, Indian Society of Critical Care Medicine, Mumbai Branch secretary Dr. Bharat Jagiasi  appeals to take some rest and drink plenty of water before donating blood.

Why anaemia in summer?

In summer, between March and May, citizens go for tourism or to the village. Since there is not much response from citizens, the amount of organising blood donation camps decreases. As a result, a large amount of anaemia occurs in summer every year. Therefore, the State Blood Transfusion Council appeals to Ganeshotsav Mandals, religious organisations, social organisations, various organisations, friend circles to organise blood donation camps.
