Mumbai has made a strong move in Burson’s 2025 Ranking of Sport Cities, rising to 39th position from 64th last year. New Delhi, however, slipped to 76th from 75th in 2024. The list highlights the top 100 cities in the world with the closest links to sports.

The annual ranking is prepared by Burson, a global leader in communications focused on building customer value through reputation. It is based on both perception and detailed quantitative study.

The evaluation includes analysis of social media, media coverage, and insights from sports leaders, journalists, and industry specialists. For the first time, this year’s ranking also added PR measures from wide-ranging media tracking.

As part of its yearly process, the five cities that finish at the bottom of the list will be dropped in the next edition. They will be replaced by the five cities most mentioned by respondents. Ahmedabad, also known as Amdavad, is among the new cities set to appear in next year’s list.

Globally, Paris has maintained its lead as the number one sports city for the third consecutive year. Los Angeles continues to hold second place, while New York City stands in third. London stands in fourth position, and Madrid has secured fifth place.
