On Friday, January 21, German Navy's Frigate Bayern, F217 arrived in Mumbai. According to reports, the German warship was received by Walter J Lindner, Germany's Ambassador to India and Aaditya ThackerayMaharashtra's Minister for protocol, Tourism, and Environment.

Thackeray was quoted by news agency, ANI saying, "It's an honour to receive the German Navy here, the relation between the two countries are very good. It is important for us as a country to send out the message of freedom, democracy and stable maritime routes in the world"

On the other hand, Lindner was quoted by the agency remarking, "We need free maritime routes. Peace in the pacific region is important. All 32 countries should respect international sea law. It's not a routine visit". He added that he's very happy that it possible to have the ship docking in Mumbai amid COVID-19.

Lindner is of the opinion that this is a visit among friends, further highlighting that 60 per cent of the international trade goes through the Pacific region.

Similarly, Thackeray, took to Twitter elaborating, "Welcomed the German Frigate “Bayern” into Mumbai, it’s docking point for India, along with Ambassador of Germany Walter J Lindner and Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Mumbai, Juergen Morhard".
