Recently, reports have been doing the rounds that women from Maharashtra Trimbakeshwar taluka, Metghar village's Mahadarwaja hamlet go through an arduous journey to fetch a mere pot of water. Based on accounts, these women walk for three hours daily to go to a well which is claimed to be the only source of water for nearly 300 residents of the hamlet.

To add to the woes of these women, the soaring temperatures in Nashik have propelled the water levels in the well to dip. Owing to this, these women put their lives at risk to climb down the well's steep walls to fetch water, cited narratives.

In the aftermath of this, Maharashtra environment minister, Aaditya Thackeray dispatched water tankers to the village for immediate relief. Thackeray's tweet read, "I was equally stunned that women from Mahadarwaja hamlet of Metghar village in Trimbakeshwar, Nashik were risking their lives and descending into a well for a single pot of water. On hearing this, we dispatched water tankers to the village for immediate relief."

Apart from this, the authorities will be installing a pump to retrieve the underground water to increase the well's water levels. This they hope will provide the villagers safe access to water which they anticipate will ensure that the earlier happening do not transpire.

Nashik’s Guardian Minister, Chhagan Bhujbal is reportedly working to streamline other hamlets in the district that are facing such similar challenging circumstances. Thackeray also added that he interacted with the Water Supply Minister Gulabrao Patil about installing direct water supply through taps in their homes, through the Jal Jeevan Mission.
