Industries Minister Uday Samant announced in the legislative council on Thursday that the state government will honour entrepreneurs who have achieved remarkable achievements in the industry by giving the Udyog Ratna award on the lines of 'Maharashtra Bhushan' every year. He announced that well-known industrialist Ratan Tata has been selected for the first Udyog Ratna award.


The Maharashtra Industry, Trade and Investment Facilitation Bill was introduced in the Legislative Council to make arrangements for getting various permits required for setting up industries and investment in the state at one place. Responding to the discussion, Samant claimed that the state has taken a big lead in investment in the last ten months.

Eminent persons in the field of industry will be honoured with the Udyog Ratna award. In this regard, the decision was taken in the meeting of the committee comprising Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Ajit Pawar and himself as Industry Minister. He said that this award will bring honour and prestige to the country. He said that along with the Udyog Ratna award, three more awards will be given for young entrepreneurs, women entrepreneurs and Marathi entrepreneurs. However, he did not give details about the exact nature of all these awards and when they will be awarded.
