As COVID-19 restrictions disrupted the lives and livelihood of people, a Mumbai-based NGO, Swarajya Foundation in Kala Chowki, has taken up the initiative to provide feel meals to the needy for the next 10 days in the city.

Many went hungry in the last years’ lockdown, while many died of starvation. Keeping this in mind, the NGO will distribute lunch meals to the general public from today, April 20.

Speaking to the media, Uday Pawar, Founder-President of Swarajya Foundation said, "Strict restrictions are likely to lead to starvation of taxi drivers, small traders, workers and autorickshaw drivers. Therefore, the possibility of starvation of this small toiling group cannot be ruled out. Therefore, taking a step further, we have decided to distribute food at Kala chowki in front of the main gate of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Maidan from 12 noon to 1 pm.”

“The idea came to our minds on Saturday afternoon and we have also announced to start the initiative immediately. We will do this activity for the next 10 days. If the restrictions are extended, we are considering continuing this for a few more days,” added Uday Pawar.
