Tata Mumbai Marathon has been invited to be a part of world ranking system. It is going to be the first Indian marathon to have been listed to participate in AbbottWMM Wanda Age Group World Championship in 2020.

What’s even more interesting is that the runners above the age of 40 in different age categories will compete for ranks along with those from six other international marathons. The selection criteria of Mumbai Marathon on the list would be footfall and arrangements.

The first qualifying marathon for the world championship is the BMW Berlin-Marathon which is being held on September 16, 2018. The qualifying period will end with a marathon on September 29, 2018.

Among the qualifiers for the World Marathon are New York City Marathon, Tokyo Marathon, Boston Marathon and Marathon de Bourdeaux Metropole.

The 16th edition of Mumbai Marathon will be held on January 20, 2019. The event will have 46,000 running positions open for six categories. Registrations will begin from July 29. Ch.Vidyasagar Rao, while officially launching the registrations of the marathon on Friday, said that The Tata Mumbai Marathon is the single largest fundraising platform which is benefiting several NGOs in the country.
