According to a report by The Times of India, 90 per cent of total Internet usage by Indians was spent on the mobile phone in 2017 which is the highest in the world. The source of the report, analytics company Comscore, said that globally there is only 30 per cent of mobile-only users.

The other countries that topped the list for spending their Internet minutes on phone were:

  • Indonesia (87 per cent)
  • Mexico (80 per cent)
  • Argentina (77 per cent)
  • Malaysia (75 per cent)

The data prices have reduced, making Internet easily available and has led to a considerable growth in the usage of smartphones in the market. The report further explained that an Indian on average spends about 3,000 minutes on the phone whereas only 1,200 minutes on the desktop.

Quoting Comscore, the report further said that India consisted of 400 per cent more unique users than the desktop users which means the new digital audience in the country is heading towards the right direction.

As per the reports, India was also the leading user of WhatsApp across the globe spending almost 98 per cent of the total time spent on the messaging app. The remaining two per cent was spent on Facebook Messenger.
