There were earlier reports suggesting that Apple will be opening its first brand retail store in Mumbai. It now seems that the plan is taking shape. As per a report by The Economic Times, Apple has zeroed in on Maker Maxity mall in Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) for this store. It is also being said that Apple has leased a 20,000 to 25,000 square feet space, and the store in question will be spread over three floors in the mall.

The report adds that the design and working on the store is already in process and it will be ready to open doors for Indian customers by September 2020. All the fixtures and furniture for the store will be imported.

The franchisee store by Flagship Apple Premium Reseller, which was opened in August is spread across two floors in Mumbai's High Street Phoenix Mall.

Earlier in the year, India government relaxed local sourcing norms for foreign direct investment (FDI) for single-brand retail. With this, the companies aren’t obliged to follow the rule that allowed brands to sell via their own stores only if they source 30 per cent of their hardware components locally and finally enabling Apple and all other companies like Apple to sell their products directly to the consumers.
