25 shining years of Ladies Special

25 shining years of Ladies Special
SHARES

The 1990s saw immense industrial and commercial growth towards the southern side of Mumbai and also an increase in a number of working women, especially commuting from north of Mumbai. The ladies special has been a boon for the working women who had to earlier struggle to board the ladies compartment in the regular trains. Dedicating an entire train to women meant they could travel more comfortably, which was the primary aim of the services. Running successfully for 25 years on one of the busiest suburban lines it is considered a blessing by all female travellers.

At present, Western Railway operates 8 Ladies Special services in a day, divided equally during the morning and evening peak hours between the UP and DOWN lines.

Shri Bhakar briefed that to instil a sense of safety & security amongst the women passengers, W.Rly has come up with various novel initiatives & measures. W. Rly has installed CCTV cameras in almost 60 ladies coaches. Talkback System is a new security measure introduced by W. Rly in this year, on the occasion of International Women’s Day, which has been installed in all the ladies coaches of two suburban rakes, as a pilot project.

Guard will receive the audible sound and visual indication on the cab control panel located in Guard Cab and assistance can be provided at the earliest. This will hugely benefit lady passengers, especially, during any exigencies such as security or medical issues.  W.Rly salutes the spirit of the women folk of Mumbai region and the Ladies Special train will always be an enlightening tribute to womanhood.
