The Central Railways (CR) introduced the 12 air-conditioned (AC) local train services on the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT)-Vashi/Panvel Harbour line from December 1. However, it has come to light that these locals are getting lukewarm response from the passengers.

According to data revealed by the CR, on an average, 40 to 50 passengers travel daily on Trans Harbour route from 12 round trips. The total passenger capacity of an air-conditioned local train is 5,964. It has a seating capacity of 1,028 passengers and can carry 4,936 passengers vertically.

Therefore, the authorities have decided to run the AC locals on the main route of the Central Railway. After the fifth and sixth routes from Thane to Diva, new rounds will be added. Apart from this, it is being considered to run AC local on CSMT to Goregaon route.
