The Railways has decided to extend all its Harbour train services till Goregaon instead of Andheri.

Central Railways (CR) will now extend the CSMT-Andheri and Panvel-Andheri services till Goregaon. Following this, it will allow more passengers to travel by the Harbour line.

According to officials, this would be operational from December 2021. They are working on a new timetable according to which the existing 22 pairs of services that run between CSMT and Andheri will be extended till Goregaon.

Similarly, nine more pairs of services that run between Panvel and Andheri will be extended as well.

Moreover, there will be the added operational benefit of running all Harbour services on the Western Railway route. In addition, the stretch will soon be extended till Borivali too.

At present, 21 pairs or 42 services run between CSMT and Goregaon and 9 pairs or 18 services between Panvel and Goregaon.

This means that passengers from Jogeshwari, Ram Mandir and even Malad can use the trains. However, if a significant number of commuters shift to Goregaon locals, there would be more relief to Borivali and Kandivli commuters as they can get adequate space in their dedicated services.

Harbour line services were extended till Goregaon from March 29, 2018. Though not all services were extended till Goregaon though, due to crew management issues as trains are operated by both CR and WR.

Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation (MRVC) has now firmed up plans to extend the Harbour line till Borivali. Work is expected to start soon as tenders are likely to be floated in a few weeks.
