The 500 metre area around the important Badlapur railway station on the Central Railway line will soon be transformed. The area of this station will be developed under the 'Station Area Improvement Project' i.e. 'SATIS'. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has invited tenders for planning, design and project management of the project.

MMRDA has decided to implement the 'Railway Station Area Improvement Project' i.e. 'SATIS' project to develop the railway premises by controlling passenger, pedestrian and vehicular traffic. The 'SATIS' project will be implemented in Borivali, Andheri, Malad, Dadar, Chembur, Ghatkopar etc. railway stations. World Bank assistance was also taken to implement this project under the Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP). But this project remained on paper for some reason. But now MMRDA has decided to start this project at Badlapur railway station.

According to the information given by MMRDA, the area up to 500 metres of Badlapur railway station will be developed under 'SATIS'. Under this, widening of footpaths, relocation of bus stations, cycle stands, private vehicle areas, CCTV cameras and beautification etc. will be done. Importantly, the metro will also run from this area in the future. Hence, it also includes the facility of connecting railway stations and metro stations with each other. The cost of this project and maintenance will be met from the revenue generated from the parking facility here. Also, space will be given on rent for advertisements.

The MMRDA has taken the first step for the implementation of this project. Tenders are invited for project planning, design and project management. After the completion of all these works, the area will be developed by inviting tenders for the actual work.
