Coronavirus cases across the state have reduced with time, and despite the lockdown imposed in Mumbai and other cities, the government and the local body have allowed certain activities to resume, for the benefit of the public. However, the Mumbai local train services have not resumed for everyone and this has raised concerns amongst the people.

Having no option, commuters are opting for BEST buses and additional services are operated keeping the crowds in mind. At present, BEST has decided to run the bus at full capacity so that the passengers do not face any inconvenience during the journey and they are able to accommodate as many people as possible.

The department has enlisted the help of MSRTC for the convenience of passengers, and as a result, the number of passengers travelling by BEST is increasing, whereby BEST and passengers are now coming to the forefront. As per data, BEST is being used by around 2.3 million passengers daily, and the same number of passengers were travelling on a daily basis, in 2018. The services offered relief to the passengers and during the lockdown where BEST was seen as the lifeline of Mumbai, especially during the coronavirus pandemic.

Officials state that the number of passengers travelling by BEST buses increased in the months of June-November 2020. A total of eight lakh passengers travelled in June 2020, and this increase to nine lakh in July, ten lakh in August and 18 lakh in September and 21 lakh in October, and 23 lakh until now, in November.
