Mumbaikars now will be able to travel in Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) buses at cheap fares from April 7 onwards. This can be availed by passengers who have downloaded the season pass or booked tickets using the Chalo app and Chalo card.

The BEST officials said BEST has revised the fares for Super Saver Plan, Unlimited Ride Pass, Student Pass and Senior Citizen Pass and these changes will come into effect from April 7.

Officials say that these will help in saving up to 60% of the cost compared to buying tickets. Along with this, the BEST administration wants to make digital ticketing more popular.

The BEST has differentiated the fares by INR 6, INR 13, INR 19 and INR 25. Depending on the number of journeys, the duration of these passes varies from 1 day to 84 days. Apart from this, the fare for unlimited AC bus ride has been reduced from INR 60 to INR 50 per day, while for 30 days the charge may be INR 750 instead of the existing INR 1,250. A student pass for 60 trips comes to INR 200 as against INR 250 at present.

The Chalo app has crossed 44 lakh downloads so far and more than 25% have used it to buy tickets.
