The drivers belonging a section of wet-lease bus operators once again called for a strike within a month on Tuesday, May 17 in Mumbai. These drivers were complaining about the non-disbursement of salaries by the wet-lease operator. Therefore, so far, they have held three strikes due to non-payment of salaries.

According to reports, the drivers working for one of the wet-lease operators at Vikhroli, Bandra, Colaba, Wadala and Kurla bus depots did not operate the services.

Owing to this, people commuting to offices, who usually take buses to railway stations and their workplaces suffered a major setback.

The officials from Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) said that 163 AC mini buses running on wet-lease from these three bus depots did not come on the road. In the first half, there was a lot of trouble as the BEST administration was not prepared for this flash strike and people were complaining about the lack of services. BEST runs 275 minibuses in the city through private contractor MP Group.

Meanwhile, the BEST Spokesperson, said that action will be taken against the contractor, which will be fined INR 5,000 each for every bus that did not ply.

Earlier, on April 21 similar flash strike took place which had disrupted smooth operations. The agitation was called off after assurance from the contractor.
