BEST employees to go on strike January 8 onwards

In response to the passive attitude of the authorities, the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) employees have decided to go on a strike January 8, 2019, onwards. The employees had conducted a voting session on Thursday to decide about the direction of the protest and the votes were tallied on Friday.

The tally revealed that more than 95 per cent of the workers were unsatisfied by the transport corporation and therefore, had decided to go on a strike.

Accordingly, the 14,461 employees have declared that they will be protesting against BEST as long as their demands aren’t met. The demands consist of various promises made by Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) which the employees have asked to be fulfilled soon.

In addition, the employees have also asked BEST to finalise the salary increments for the employees recruited since 2007. They have also demanded that they must provide the employees with payments as per the new salary structure soon. The demands also include solving the issue of bonus for BEST employees as well as proper housing for them.
