Coronavirus cases in the city of Mumbai have been increasing after Diwali and the state government had warned the citizens about the second wave. With activities resuming under the 'Mission Begin Again' initiative, healthcare providers and staff have been working hard towards the treatment.

Observing the rise in cases and with people flouting social distancing rules, the state government and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) have taken strict steps to raise awareness for the safety of the citizens. In order to enhance the same, the BMC is also collaborating with the Railways to spread the word related to coronavirus, other diseases and how to stay safe. Furthermore, people who have been infected with COVID-19 have been asked to step forward for plasma donation.

Advertisements related to coronavirus will be made in all railway coaches over the next four months, for which an agreement has been signed with Central Railway. This will be effective from December 2020 to March 2021. The corporation has agreed to pay INR 68.86 lakh to the railways for the same.

The decision regarding the campaign was taken after understanding that many citizens in Mumbai travel by suburban railways, and creating awareness through locals will only help the cause. Awareness will be spread by displaying these advertisements on the window panels on the inside of the locomotive and on the top of the door, for which Telex Advertising has been given the contract to display the advertisement for the next four months.

Similarly, the administration has clarified that public awareness will be created by displaying advertisements in the locals on the western railway line.

Coronavirus spread in the city has not been under control fully and citizens do not follow the preventive measures stated by the government. Often people do not wear masks when walking in public places, and if worn, many do not cover their nose and mouth. This has raised concerns and the municipality has decided to take punitive action for the same. Emphasis has been laid on spreading the word repeatedly, in a strong manner.

Through the Department of Information, Education and Liaison of the Public Health Department, important messages regarding the health of Mumbaikars are continuously conveyed to the people, and the outbreak of coronavirus can only be controlled if the citizens follow the rules.

Meanwhile, people with COVID-19 have been informed about the importance of plasma donation as it proves to be a remedy for critically ill patients. Citizens are being made aware of how antibodies work and help people recover from the illness. The proposed campaign will also include messages regarding the same.
