Central Railways has launched an extensive Anti-Smoking Safety Drive as part of its continued efforts to provide safe and better travel to its passengers. This Anti-Smoking Safety Drive has been launched on Mumbai, Pune, Solapur, Bhusaval and Nagpur divisions of Central Railway.

In this drive, on Thursday, February 24 and Friday, February 25, a total of 160 people have been detected and penalised INR 29,700 under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COPTA) – 2003.

This includes 67 cases and penalty of INR 13,200 from Mumbai Division, 37 cases and penalty of INR 7,400 each from Bhusaval and Nagpur Division, nine cases and penalty of INR1,500 from Pune Division and 10 cases and penalty of INR 200 from Solapur Division.

The authority also took to Twitter saying, "'CHOTI MISTAKE CAN LEAD TO BADA DHAMAKA' Be a responsible citizen and do not smoke or allow others to smoke in the Train & Railway premises. SMOKING in trains and platforms is strictly PROHIBITED. It is a punishable offence under section 167 of Indian Railway Act."

Smoking is injurious to health and punishable under COPTA-2003. Thus, Central Railways appeals to its passengers to avoid smoking in railway premises and trains and make travel safe for themselves as well as for other passengers.
