The Central Railways is anticipated to deploy air-conditioned rakes utilized on Harbour and Trans-Harbour lines on the Main lines since it looks to augment services post the commissioning of the fifth and sixth lines between Thane and Diva, reports stated.

This is expected to happen in February. Reports have quoted Anil Kumar Lahoti, CR General Manager who elaborated on how they’ll review the running of AC services on the Thane-Panvel Trans-Harbour and the CSTM-Panvel Harbour Line.

Lahoti elucidated that post the commissioning of the Thane-Diva project they will bring into force additional AC services whenever rakes are made accessible.

Presently, the fourth- and sixth-lines function between LTT-Thane and Diva-Kalyan. Post the commissioning of the Thane-Diva corridor, additional lines will be accessible for suburban services since the long-distance trains will be diverted onto the new lines.

Based on accounts, claims have been made that the footfall of travellers in AC trains is poor on the Harbour and Trans-Harbour lines. This allegedly has an average daily ticket sales of 45-60. On the Mainline, on the other hand, it is 150. Therefore, the reports allege that by developing AC services on the Main Line, travellers can be accorded enhanced frequency.
