The Environment and Pollution Control Department of Kalyan Dombivli Municipality has decided to start a total of 64 electric charging stations in different parts of the city. So, the administration is thinking of setting up a spacious charging hub for private vehicles at Shahad. The municipality has taken this decision with the aim of creating a charging system for the electric buses of the municipality's transport activities and increasing the use of electric vehicles within the municipality limits.

The central government has ordered the state government and local bodies to make the cities pollution free in the next two years. The government will focus on using environmentally friendly essential tools in the coming period. According to this order, the Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Pollution Control and Environment Conservation Department has started the work of preparing proposals for effective measures considering pollution free cities.

A total of 250 electric buses will be added to the fleet of Kalyan Dombivli Transport Initiative in the near future. 10 buses have joined the fleet. Abundant charging stations for these vehicles need to be set up in various parts of the city including transport hubs. Lack of adequate charging stations will make it difficult to release electric buses for a larger number of passengers. Therefore, under the guidance of Rohini Lokre, executive engineer of the pollution control department of the municipality, it is being planned to set up 64 charging stations.

In Kalyan, charging stations for transport buses will be set up at Ganesh Ghat Agar on Murbad Road, Vasant Valley, Khambalpada Agar in Dombivli. Passenger transport buses should not be stopped due to lack of charging, the environment of the city should be pollution free. Executive Engineer Lokre said that these centres are being set up with the idea of increasing the tendency of citizens towards the use of electric vehicles and creating awareness among them. In many places, it takes one to one and a half hours to charge a vehicle at a private charging station. It is planned that this process will be done in half to half an hour at the centre proposed by the municipality.

The use of electric vehicles should be increased in Kalyan Dombivli municipal limits. The municipality has planned to set up a charging centre for private vehicles in the space allotted to the municipality through all-inclusive reservation in the Birla complex next to the Shapoorji Pallonji building in Shahad in order to be able to charge the electric vehicles immediately. It is proposed to set up 10 charging stations initially, followed by a total of 60 charging stations in phases. A transport official said that the main objective behind setting up this hub is to provide instant charging of electric vehicles to private vehicle drivers.
