On the account to observe ‘Janta curfew’ announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi amid the coronavirus pandemic, the railway has decided that there will be no passenger train originating between midnight of March 21 to 10:00 PM on March 22. 

The notification issued by the Union Railways Ministry mentions that the services of intercity and express trains will also be suspended from 4:00 AM on Sunday till 10:00 PM. 

As per the notification issued by Ministry of Railways, the suburban train services in Mumbai will be reduced to a bare minimum level and will cater only to essential travel requirement.

The Indian Railways has cancelled 245 trains in order to restrict unnecessary travel due to the coronavirus outbreak. Around 2,400 passengers train will be cancelled while 1,300 long-distance, express service will also be cancelled. 

The ministry has also advised zonal railways to arrange for a hassle-free refund to passengers affected because of the cancelled trains while regulating train services on Sunday. 

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation amid the coronavirus pandemic and outbreak across the globe while emphasising on the need to take precautions and practise social distancing. 

“Isolate yourself from the world,” Narendra Modi asserted while addressing the nation. Modi asked the Finance Minister to take all necessary action under Economic Response Task Force and urged the people to impose ‘Janta curfew’ on March 22 from 7:00 AM to 9:00 PM as a measure to combat the deadly coronavirus or COVID-19.

Modi also appealed the public not to don’t indulge in panic buying while stating that there is no scarcity of essential commodities.

The number of positive cases of coronavirus or COVID-19 in India has increased to 223 while new cases have been tested positive for the deadly virus in Maharashtra taking the toll to 52 in the state.
